Some mountains are climbed for the view but Doi Luang Chiang Dao feels more like a place you enter with respect. Rising to 2,225 metres, this sacred peak holds Thailand’s only semi-alpine forest, rare orchids, limestone ridges, and sunrise mist that turns the valleys below into a pale moving sea.
The journey begins in Chiang Dao, a conservation briefing, and a quiet evening near the sanctuary. The next day, you trek through bamboo forest, ancient woodland, and seasonal wildflower areas where the Chiang Dao Lady’s Slipper Orchid and Parrot Flower may appear. By late afternoon, you reach Ang Salung campsite, set up tents, and walk to a ridge for sunset over the Three Brothers Peaks. Before dawn, the final climb leads to the summit, where golden light reaches the limestone ridges one by one.
This is a guided small-group trek with simple camping, local meals, and no technical climbing required. Come prepared to carry a daypack, travel lightly, and step carefully through one of Thailand’s most fragile and remarkable wild places!
