What if the most exciting part of the mountain is the line you have to walk carefully? Khao Chang Phueak is famous for its Knife-Edge Ridge — a narrow, exposed section high above the forests and grasslands of western Thailand, where every step feels sharp, focused, and unforgettable.
The journey begins in Bangkok, with a stop at the historic Bridge over the River Kwai before continuing into the mountains of Kanchanaburi. You spend the first night in E-Tong Village near the Myanmar border, then trek into Thong Pha Phum National Park with local guides and porters. The trail climbs through dense forest, tall savanna grass, rocky ground, and open ridges until you reach the ridge camp. From there, you cross the legendary Knife-Edge Ridge and sleep under a wide mountain sky.
Before dawn, you hike to the summit for sunrise, when mist fills the valleys and the first light reaches the western highlands. This guided trek includes simple camping, local meals, permits, and support on the trail. It is challenging but non-technical, best for fit hikers who are steady on exposed terrain and comfortable with heights. Come for the ridge, the stars, and one of Thailand’s boldest mountain views!
