The Lemosho Route is widely regarded as the most beautiful trail on Mount Kilimanjaro, offering panoramic views from multiple sides of the mountain. As one of the newer and less-crowded routes, it provides an ideal balance of scenic variety, steady acclimatization, and a high summit success rate.
Approaching Kilimanjaro from the western slopes, Lemosho begins with two days of hiking through lush rainforest before emerging onto the vast Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus on earth. The route then joins the Machame trail near Lava Tower, traverses beneath Kilimanjaro’s Southern Ice Field along the Southern Circuit, and culminates with a summit ascent from Barafu Camp.
The descent follows the Mweka Route, completing a diverse and visually stunning circuit of the mountain.
This route is highly recommended for climbers seeking a less crowded, picturesque, and well-paced journey to the Roof of Africa.
