The Shira Route offers one of the most scenic and least crowded approaches to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Beginning on the remote western side of the mountain, this route crosses the dramatic Shira Plateau, volcanic landscapes, alpine deserts, and high-altitude glaciers before reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Unlike the busier routes, the Shira trail provides a more peaceful wilderness experience with expansive views and a stronger sense of isolation.

The route is physically demanding due to its higher starting altitude, but the gradual progression across varied terrain allows trekkers to experience Kilimanjaro’s remarkable ecological diversity. From misty forests and moorlands to rocky ridges and arctic summit zones, every stage brings changing scenery and rewarding panoramas.
