Leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland zone, where the scenery changes dramatically into open landscapes filled with giant heather, volcanic rock, and rolling hills. The trail gradually ascends across ridges and valleys toward the vast Shira Plateau, one of the largest high-altitude plateaus in the world. Along the route, enjoy increasingly spectacular views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding mountain slopes. Arrive at Shira 1 Camp in the afternoon for dinner and overnight.

Today’s trek crosses the scenic Shira Plateau, offering wide-open landscapes and magnificent mountain views. The route continues eastward across grassy moorlands and volcanic terrain toward the quieter and less-visited Moir Hut area near the Lent Hills. This section provides excellent opportunities for acclimatization walks and photography, with impressive views of Kilimanjaro’s summit glaciers and surrounding wilderness. The peaceful atmosphere of Moir Hut makes it one of the most memorable camps on the route.

The day begins with a steady ascent through alpine desert terrain toward the famous Lava Tower, a dramatic volcanic rock formation standing high above the surrounding landscape. This stage is extremely important for acclimatization as trekkers spend several hours at higher altitude before descending again. After enjoying views around Lava Tower, descend through the beautiful Senecio Forest, known for its giant groundsels and unusual vegetation. Continue into the spectacular Barranco Valley, arriving at Barranco Camp beneath the towering Barranco Wall for dinner and overnight stay.

Begin the morning with the ascent of the famous Barranco Wall, one of the most exciting sections of the trek. Although steep in places, the climb is non-technical and rewards trekkers with incredible panoramic views over glaciers, valleys, and surrounding peaks. After reaching the top, continue across rocky ridges and alpine valleys before descending into Karanga Valley. A final short climb leads to Karanga Camp, where the shorter trekking day allows additional time for acclimatization and rest before the summit approach.

Continue climbing steadily toward Barafu Camp, located on a rocky ridge beneath the summit glaciers. The landscape becomes increasingly barren and exposed as the route enters the high alpine zone. Upon arrival at camp, enjoy breathtaking views of Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks while preparing equipment for summit night. After an early dinner, rest for a few hours before the midnight summit ascent begins.

Around midnight, begin the final ascent toward Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. This is the most physically demanding stage of the expedition, involving several hours of climbing through cold temperatures, darkness, and high altitude. As dawn approaches, reach Stella Point on the crater rim and witness an unforgettable sunrise above the clouds. Continue along the summit ridge to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) for photographs and celebration. After enjoying the summit, descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest and lunch before continuing down to Mweka Camp, located in the upper rainforest zone.

The final day of the trek descends through lush rainforest trails filled with birdsong and dense tropical vegetation. Upon reaching Mweka Gate, receive your summit certificates and celebrate the successful completion of your Kilimanjaro climb. A transfer vehicle will then drive you back to Arusha, marking the end of your unforgettable Lemosho Route adventure.
