Imagine walking through a landscape where history, nature, and sound weave into one continuous story. In Bad Ischl, once the imperial summer retreat, your journey begins with quiet rituals and the first listening spaces. Soon, the path carries you away from elegant spa gardens into gorges carved by rushing streams, and further up to alpine pastures where cows graze under the vast sky.

Guided by carefully placed audio tracks, each stop transforms into a stage: a bench in front of a church, a hunter’s stand in the meadow, a mountain saddle kissed by sunrise. Here, sound becomes a companion — voices and stories enriching the silence of the forest, the rhythm of your steps, and the sweep of mountain views.

Nights are spent in a mix of comfort and simplicity: first in a 4-star hotel in Bad Ischl, then in rustic alpine huts where the world feels far away. A cable car and a taxi ease parts of the journey, but the essence lies in walking, listening, and experiencing. Join this unique mix of hiking and audio art — a journey both through the Salzkammergut mountains and into a new way of perceiving the world!

Route details

Day 1
Imperial Echoes in Bad Ischl

Your journey begins in the brine spa town of Bad Ischl, once the summer retreat of Emperor Franz Joseph and a health resort since 1906. Nestled in the heart of the Salzkammergut, it offers the perfect introduction to your hiking adventure. Stroll through the elegant spa park, unwind in the thermal baths, or enjoy a sweet pause at the legendary Café Zauner. At your hotel, you’ll receive your detailed travel documents for the days ahead.
(1 night in Bad Ischl)

Listening Room 1 – The Great World Space Journey begins at home in your bathroom or in the hotel bathroom. Take your mobile phone in your hand, connect it to your headphones, open the Alpenvereinaktiv app, go to the sink, close the door. You should have your hands free while listening, so put your mobile phone away. Press play.
You enter your daily space of action, become localised, hear voices doing something, you can also join in, you are in the world, but the water has disappeared. How can you make the wall of the bath transparent?
Listening time 4 minutes.
