Þórsmörk (Thorsmork) is a stunning mountain ridge nestled between Iceland's glaciers Tindfjallajökull and Eyjafjallajökull. Named after Thor, this area is a paradise for hikers, featuring lush valleys, striking cliffs, and rivers that wind through volcanic landscapes.

We'll explore trails suitable for all experience levels, encountering waterfalls, hot springs, and breathtaking views of glaciers along the way. The region's distinctive microclimate, influenced by the towering mountains, fosters vibrant greenery, including moss-covered slopes and birch forests that are uncommon in Iceland's typically rugged landscape.

For those seeking adventure, Þórsmörk provides options ranging from easy walks to more demanding hikes! Keep an eye out for Arctic foxes and seabirds, and remember to bring your camera—those glacial rivers and misty valleys are truly enchanting. Whether we’re camping beneath the midnight sun or simply enjoying the scenery, Þórsmörk embodies Iceland’s wild and untamed spirit.

What began as a trial of three tours in 2021 quickly evolved into a highly sought-after experience for women around the globe. I founded our company after noticing the lack of women-only tours in Iceland, and I decided to create my own. I am gradually building a community for female travelers, encouraging them to push their boundaries. Although our company was established in 2021, I have been working as a tour guide in Iceland since 2013 and have had a passion for hiking, traveling, and connecting with nature from an early age. Our mission is to empower women through immersive travel experiences, providing opportunities for self-transformation and meaningful connections with others. We offer female-led excursions throughout Iceland, featuring everything from classic road trips to thrilling hikes on scenic trails.

Route details

Day 1
From Reykjavík City to Hiking in Þórsmörk: Valahnúkur Adventure

Let's start the day early! We'll meet our guide at 6:45am at the BSI bus station in downtown Reykjavik and hop on the public highland bus to Þórsmörk. This beautiful valley is the end point of the famous Laugavegur trail, and we're excited to explore it.

We'll arrive at Básar, our cozy mountain hut, around 11:30am. After lunch, we'll head out to hike Valahnúkur Mountain. The trail is pretty easy and offers amazing views of Þórsmörk and the surrounding areas. It's a great way to get familiar with the landscape and spot other mountain huts and campsites.

After our hike, we'll head down to Húsadalur and visit the famous Snorraríki cave in Langidalur. We'll follow the well-marked trail back to Básar, just in time for dinner. Fun fact: Þórsmörk is named after the Norse god Thor, and it's a haven for nature lovers and hikers alike!

Tour provider's comments

You can expect daily hikes to last between 3 to 6 hours per day. While hiking in Þórsmörk, you will face many challenging sections including narrow ridges, steep moraines, drop-offs, rough terrain, and more.

The changes in elevation won’t be that significant, and the steeper sections of the trail will be well-marked and accessible, often via man-made steps.
