Route details

Day 1
Cultural Coast Walk and Lake Curalo Trek

There are two main pick-up locations:
1. Merimbula RSL – 50 Main St at 7.45 am for an 8 am sharp departure
2. Cranky Café – 33 Ocean Drive, 8.15 am for an 8.30 am sharp departure.

We begin our journey heading south from Merimbula toward the coastal town of Eden and the tranquil waters of Lake Curalo. The day’s first walk follows the newly signed Bundian Way Story Trail, beginning at Cocora Beach. This scenic path winds through native bushland, revealing sweeping views of Twofold Bay and offering a deeper connection to the land through stories of the Yuin people, who have walked these routes for thousands of years.

We pause at Budginbro Lookout before continuing along the beach to Quarantine Bay. In the afternoon, we explore the Lake Curalo boardwalk, a gentle path skirting the lake’s edge through melaleuca forest and salt marshes, with chances to spot fish, birds, and reeds in the shallows. At low tide, we may even cross the estuary mouth, perhaps with wet shoes, but always with a sense of adventure.

A special highlight awaits at the Eden Killer Whale Museum, where we’ll enjoy a guided tour and learn about the region’s whaling history, including the story of ‘Old Tom,’ Eden’s most famous orca. By evening, we settle into our stunning accommodation at the Seahorse Inn, nestled along the shores of Twofold Bay. Unwind with a beachside swim or relax on your balcony before enjoying a well-earned two-course dinner prepared by your guides.
