Salt air, the rhythm of waves, and the crunch of earth beneath your boots—this journey along the Great Ocean Walk is a moving meditation set to the soundtrack of Australia’s wild southern coast. You will explore windswept cliffs, secluded beaches, and ancient forests stretching from Marengo Beach to the iconic Twelve Apostles.

Your adventure begins at Marengo Beach—home to Australian Fur Seals—then follow the Great Ocean Road past Shelly Beach, Cape Otway Lightstation, Aire River, Castle Cove, and Johanna Beach. From the remote beauty of Milanesia Beach to the breathtaking lookout at Ryan’s Den, every step connects you to the raw coastal landscape. You’ll walk through tea-tree forests near Moonlight Head and descend the Gibson Steps to view Gog and Magog from sea level, before arriving at the awe-inspiring Twelve Apostles.

Evenings are spent in peaceful forest settings near Cape Otway, where towering eucalypts catch the last golden light and stars emerge undisturbed by city glow. Local food, quiet comfort, and stunning nature create space for presence and connection. Join us on this Great Ocean Walking Journey and feel the coastline unfold beneath your feet!

Leaving Melbourne behind, from outside the National Gallery of Victoria, St Kilda Road, we travel the iconic Great Ocean Road, with a stop in Anglesea for morning tea before arriving in Apollo Bay. We descend to the beach before entering a lush pocket of rainforest in the Great Otway National Park. The trail climbs gently through tall forest before reaching Shelly Beach. Afterwards, we head to our accommodation where your guides will prepare dinner and snacks for a relaxed evening.

Cape Otway Lightstation Cottages

Cape Otway Lightstation Cottages
These historic houses are located in one of the most spectacular settings found along the Great Ocean Road. Cape Otway Lighthouse is the oldest surviving lighthouse in mainland Australia and considered the most significant. Built in 1848, the lighthouse known as the ‘Beacon of Hope’ sits 90 metres above the pristine ocean of Bass Strait.

Accommodation style: We stay in two beautifully renovated cottages. Each one is fully self-contained and have two or four bedrooms, garden views and a kitchen or kitchenette. Our four-bedroom lodge has an open plan kitchen, wood heater and dining room where your guides will cater, and you will enjoy communal dining with the group each evening. Our two-bedroom Cottage has a fully equipped kitchen, wood heater and shared bathroom.

Rooming: Each cottage has four bedrooms and two shared bathrooms. Each option has a mix of king and single beds. If you book a Single Supplement, you will have a room to yourself.

Bathrooms: Each cottage has at least one bathroom. You will be sharing the bathroom with other guests in your cottage.

Single Supplement: If you book single supplement this means you will have one private bedroom in either cottage, and would be sharing the cottage with other guests.

Other: All towels and linen are provided. The cottages are comfortable and furnished ideally to suit the period of their build with modern extras including TV, DVD and heating. Hairdryers are unable to be used at the Light station as they require excessive electricity to operate. There is no TV reception or WiFi at Cape Otway, but we supply a limited selection of DVDs, together with jigsaw puzzles, games and books. Telstra mobile reception is available at various points around the site.

There is an emergency landline onsite, and we always carry a Satellite phone in case of emergencies. A digital detox is something we promote on our trail.
