Have you ever wondered what it feels like to step through a portal into Australia’s last great wilderness, where ancient rainforests meet roaring surf and hidden waterfalls whisper secrets of millennia
Throughout this journey, you’ll cover around 45 km on foot, soaking in the Tarkine’s breathtaking scenery. Begin by following the Dove River into the cool embrace of Hellyer Gorge and Philosopher Falls, then settle into the peaceful riverbank retreat of Corinna. From there, journey along tangled ridgelines to Savage River’s mist‑shrouded heights before pausing beneath towering Huon pines at the mouth of the Whyte River. The next morning, feel the spray of dawn on a Pieman River cruise, then set foot on the wild Tarkine Coast. A climb to Mount Donaldson rewards you with panoramic vistas, and finally, you’ll wander the tramway grade to Tasmania’s tallest single‑drop cascade, Montezuma Falls, before a final stop among Sheffield’s mural‑painted streets.
You’ll travel in comfort from Launceston to the heart of the Tarkine, rest each night in cosy eco‑cabins by the Pieman River and Rosebery Lake, and fuel your days with wholesome, locally sourced meals. Along the way, your guides, steeped in Aboriginal lore and Tarkine history, will bring each trail to life. Ready to tread these ancient paths and discover what lies beyond the next bend? Join us on this unforgettable wilderness walk!

Route details
We begin our journey in Launceston and head west on a 1.5 hour scenic drive to the charming coastal town of Penguin for a short break — the perfect spot to grab a coffee and breathe in the sea air before we leave the bustle behind. From here, we travel deeper into Tasmania’s northwest, turning onto a quieter road that leads us into the heart of the wild. Along the way, we’ll pause at the lush Hellyer Gorge for a gentle riverside circuit walk. This short trail offers a first taste of the rainforest species we’ll see more of in the coming days — moss-draped myrtles, towering tree ferns, and a cool, shaded forest floor.
Next stop is Waratah, a town rich in mining history, where we’ll enjoy lunch overlooking a beautiful waterfall that once powered a booming tin industry. After our break, we continue on to the day’s main walk: the enchanting Philosopher Falls track.
This peaceful 1.5 hour return walk winds through ancient, temperate rainforest near the upper reaches of the Arthur River — marking the northern edge of the Tarkine. Beneath a living canopy of myrtle beech, leatherwood, and sassafras, we follow a fern-lined path to a lookout with views of the cascading falls. It’s a gentle but immersive introduction to this deeply special region.
After the walk, it’s a short drive to our accommodation at Corinna, a former mining town that’s now a tranquil eco-retreat nestled on the banks of the majestic Pieman River. We’ll be staying here for the next three nights — a truly peaceful base with character-filled cabins, a cosy restaurant and bar, kayak rentals, and a variety of short forest walks just outside your door.
We’ll enjoy our first group dinner tonight at the on-site Tannin Restaurant. (Drinks at guest’s own expense)
Meals included: Lunch, Dinner
Walking distance: approx. 5 km (2 hrs)

The tour is designed for active travelers with a good base level of fitness, featuring daily hikes ranging from 5 to 11 km over easy to moderately challenging terrain, including one more tense ascent to Mt. Donaldson.
