Hidden in Daylesford-Goldfields region, where eucalyptus forests whisper stories of gold rush towns and volcanic hills cradle mineral springs, lies a walking journey through time. This adventure invites you to trace forgotten tracks and trails, from the misty heights of Hanging Rock to the gentle hush of the Wombat State Forest, where every path reveals a new layer of history, beauty, and quiet wonder of this region.
Along the way, we uncover relics of the 1850s gold rush—abandoned water races, crumbling sluices, and mining ruins now reclaimed by bushland. We visit Burke and Wills Mechanic Institute dating back to 1863, pause beneath a 1000-year-old scarred red gum, and walk in the footsteps of the Three Lost Children, whose story still lingers in the forest air. Between these chapters of the past, we explore chocolate mills and artisan precincts, volcanic landscapes and mineral springs, soaking in the charm of Daylesford, Hepburn Springs, and Castlemaine.
Evenings are spent in comfortable accommodation, with tasty meals and good company. No heavy packs, no rush, just a gentle rhythm and time to breathe. After this trip you’ll return reconnected. This is where past and present meet under the gum trees—join us and become part of the story!

After departing Melbourne, we head north-west towards the charming village of Mt. Macedon, where we’ll take a break to enjoy some local baked treats and a relaxing morning tea. Our next stop is the iconic Hanging Rock. We’ll take the summit trail for sweeping views across the surrounding landscape, with time to visit the discovery centre and explore the reserve at your own pace. We’ll spend around 2–3 hours soaking up everything this unique area has to offer.
From there, we continue north to Chewton, stepping into the heart of the region’s gold rush history. We’ll wander along old water races and past scattered ruins that once formed a thriving mining village. These gentle walks through dry eucalypt forests offer the perfect introduction to the Goldfields Track, as your knowledgeable guides share stories, relics and insights along the way.
Before heading to Daylesford, there’s a chance for a refreshing swim or to simply relax by the water. On arrival, you’ll settle into your accommodation before enjoying a delicious two-course dinner prepared by your guides – the perfect way to end your first day.
