Route details
Our adventure begins from the Hotel Grand Chancellor in Launceston, meeting at 7:30 am, and for a 7:45 am departure. We travel towards Tasmania’s north-east coast, passing through Lilydale and the Pipers River wine region. A short break in the seaside village of Bridport offers a chance to stretch before continuing on.
We arrive at Mt. William National Park and begin our walk from the pristine white sands of Cape Naturaliste, which is the northernmost point of our journey. The day’s walk follows the beach, allowing you to find your natural stride while enjoying the peaceful rhythm of the ocean. Along the way, look out for local seabirds such as Oystercatchers and Hooded Plovers. Your guides will also be able to decipher any bizarre looking ocean life that has been washed ashore with the changing tides. We may discover cuttlebones, urchins, and even shark eggs.
In the afternoon, we take a short inland detour to summit wukalina / Mt. William — a one-hour return walk to the highest point in the area. At 216 meters above sea level, the summit offers expansive views across the landscape covered in our first two days of walking. On a clear day, you may spot the distant Furneaux Islands, ancient geological remnants of a land bridge that once joined Tasmania to mainland Australia. Afterwards, we return to our bus and head to our accommodation to unpack and settle in.
