The Shira Route offers a stunning yet less-traveled approach to Mount Kilimanjaro, starting near Shira Ridge on the mountain’s western side. Once the original route before Lemosho, it provides a scenic and diverse journey across the Shira Plateau, with panoramic views of the Southern Ice Fields and Kilimanjaro’s grand summit.

Unlike other routes, the trailhead begins at high altitude (11,800 ft)—reached quickly by vehicle—so climbers may feel the effects of elevation early on. The route crosses the plateau from west to east, passes under Kilimanjaro’s Southern Circuit, and ascends to Uhuru Peak via Barafu Camp, with descent through the Mweka Route.

Before the climb, enjoy comfortable accommodation and a thorough gear check and briefing by your lead guide. Throughout your trek, expect expert guides, nutritious high-altitude meals, and top-quality camping equipment for a safe and rewarding expedition.
