Nyungwe is the largest montane forest in Central Africa, home to 13 primate species, including chimpanzees and large populations of Rwenzori colobus monkeys.
Exploring Nyungwe Forest National Park involves navigating steep and slippery hills, making wildlife sightings somewhat unpredictable. The park also boasts around 300 bird species, as well as a variety of orchids and butterflies. Nyungwe is notable for its remarkable biodiversity, particularly its chimpanzee population, and is recognized as one of the most species-rich and endemic areas in all of Africa.
