It's important to know
Due to the unpredictable nature of the weather in the Everest region, flights to and from Lukla are often delayed or canceled.
Lukla Airport is located in a beautiful valley surrounded by towering mountains, making landings and takeoffs challenging and technical. As a result, it is regarded as one of the most dangerous airstrips globally.
The primary aircraft used for travel to and from Lukla are Twin Otter and Dornier planes, which are generally reliable. However, if flights are canceled due to adverse weather conditions in the Everest area, we can assist you in chartering a helicopter upon request to help you stay on schedule for your trip and international flight connections. Passengers are responsible for the helicopter costs, which can later be claimed through their travel insurance. The helicopter fare ranges from USD 2,500 to USD 3,000 and can accommodate 4 to 6 passengers, allowing costs to be shared. The company can provide the necessary documentation for insurance claims.
Payment for the helicopter service must be made at the time of use, with cash in US dollars or credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, and American Express) being accepted. Note that card payments incur a 4% bank fee that goes directly to the bank.
According to Nepal’s Civil Aviation regulations, helicopters can operate with visibility of 1,500 meters or more, while Twin Otter and Dornier planes require visibility of at least 5,000 meters. If visibility drops below 1,500 meters due to severe weather, helicopters cannot fly. In such cases, we will attempt to reschedule your flight for the following day based on availability. If this issue persists over several days, we will offer alternative trekking options.
