Spend a night in the South Piedmont Alps, at the foot of Monviso, the legendary King of Rock (3841 m).
This short but unforgettable hike leads to one of the most authentic and traditional corners of the Italian Alps — a world of ancient stone villages, alpine lakes, and pastoral life untouched by mass tourism.

The Giacoletti Hut, chosen for this experience, offers one of the most spectacular views of Monviso. It’s a place where mountain life remains genuine, and evenings are spent sharing stories and simple, hearty meals among hikers.

The surrounding landscape is rich with glacial lakes, green meadows, and the source of the Po River, Italy’s longest waterway.
This adventure captures the essence of South Piedmont’s mountain culture — wild, welcoming, and profoundly real.

The night in a lodge in South Piedmont will bring you to the foot of Monviso, a wonderful place to spend the night in the middle of nowhere. The Giacoletti Hut has a common room that can accommodate up to 40 people. If you prefer more privacy, just contact us and we can choose a different shelter in the same area.

Please note that the cost of half board (dinner, overnight stay, and breakfast) in the shelter is not included.

Mountain Lodge

This is what in Italian is called a Rifugio. In English, you might call it a Lodge or Mountain Shelter. A Rifugio, like a Bivacco, is located in the middle of the mountains, where you can spend the night in the Italian Alps with a bit more comfort. You won’t need to bring your own food, as they serve dinner and breakfast. There is lighting, a toilet, and a heating system. There’s also usually a bar service, so you can buy a beer or a genepy, the typical liqueur of the Italian Alps.

Most shelters are open only during the summer (from July to the first week of September), but some remain open all year long. The costs are fairly high, as food and supplies have to be transported by helicopter.

In the shelter, you sleep in shared rooms (sometimes with 6–8 people, sometimes up to 20), so a bit of adventurous spirit is required. You need to bring a liner (a light sleeping bag), or you can rent one there for around 5 euros. The Rifugio is a good compromise for your Alps trekking accommodation — a balance between comfort and wilderness.
