Just a few kilometers from Orosei, the Trekking Sa Conca Isteddata and Monte Senes offers a stunning combination of geology, forest, and panoramic grandeur. Unlike the arid karst landscapes typical of this region, Monte Senes reveals a world of tafonated granite sculptures — natural forms shaped over millennia by wind and water into surreal creations.
At an elevation of 800 meters, the trail rewards hikers with uninterrupted views stretching across the East Coast — from the Island of Tavolara in the north to Capo Monte Santo in the south. Between them lie the glittering beaches of Capo Comino, Berchida, Biderosa, Su Barone, and Osalla.
As we venture through dense holm-oak and arbutus forests, giant granite boulders and hidden freshwater springs punctuate the trail. The climax of the hike is the Sa Conca Isteddata Basin, a mesmerizing natural arch where erosion has carved a window to the sky, framing the landscape below in breathtaking fashion.

Route details
Our adventure begins at 8:00 AM in Orosei, with a 4WD transfer that brings us close to the Irgoli foothills — the gateway to Monte Senes. From here, we start our ascent through shaded woodlands, where you’ll discover Sardinia’s wilder side in a tranquil, untouched setting.
Along the way, your guide will share stories of the land and the people who once lived in harmony with these mountains. As we reach higher elevations, the trail opens to panoramic viewpoints — perfect spots for a short rest and photos of the vast coastline stretching beneath you.
The path continues to the extraordinary Sa Conca Isteddata, a collapsed cave system whose vaulted rock has been eroded by centuries of wind and rain. Looking upward, you’ll see a web of openings that reveal slices of brilliant sky — a scene both magical and humbling. After a packed lunch in nature, we descend at an easy pace and return to Orosei by afternoon, carrying the serenity of this rare landscape with us.
