The Monte Rosa Short Hike is the ideal weekend escape to experience the second-highest mountain in the Alps and its breathtaking glaciers.
This short but spectacular adventure brings you to the heart of Val d’Ayas, where the massive ice walls of Monte Rosa dominate the horizon.

You’ll hike through forests, alpine meadows, and rocky ridges, reaching an unguarded hut that offers unforgettable views of the glacier.
From there, admire legendary peaks like Capanna Margherita, Lyskamm Ridge, and Dufourspitze — shining symbols of alpine grandeur.

Perfect for mountain lovers with limited time, this two-day trek delivers the essence of the Alps: wilderness, silence, and the timeless beauty of ice and sky.

Unguarded Hut

The Unguarded Hut is the more adventurous and suggestive option. It’s like a small one-room house in the middle of the mountains, usually located at more than 2,500 meters (about 8,000 feet). Moreover, it’s the cheapest option, so if you are hiking alone or want to limit costs, this will be the best choice. Most of the experienced trekkers who come with me, as well as young people on their first mountain adventure, often choose this option. It can also be a very nice experience for children, especially for a single night.

Sleeping in an unguarded hut is a bit like comfortable camping, but with the big advantage that all unguarded huts (bivacchi in Italian) have beds, blankets, and pillows. They usually also have a table where you can sit, play cards, and eat together.

In the unguarded hut, there is no toilet or shower, and you’ll need to bring your own sleeping bag. The food is usually cooked by me, but I’ll need your help to carry it up, as nothing is sold up there.
