This Mont Avic Short Hike is a unique alpine experience in Mont Avic Natural Park. The hike leads to the Borroz Hut, an unguarded mountain refuge with a cozy wood stove. The trail is suitable for most hikers, even in winter, with stunning views of Matterhorn, Becca di Luseney, and Mount Tersiva (3513 m). On the second day, choose your adventure: climb Mont Glacier (3185 m) in summer, visit Lavolidec Lake, or trek toward Finestra di Champorcer and Gran Paradiso National Park. Enjoy wild alpine landscapes, abundant wildlife, and a night away from civilization — perfect for beginners and adventurous hikers alike.

Unguarded Hut

The Unguarded Hut is the more adventurous and suggestive option. It’s like a small one-room house in the middle of the mountains, usually located at more than 2,500 meters (about 8,000 feet). Moreover, it’s the cheapest option, so if you are hiking alone or want to limit costs, this will be the best choice. Most of the experienced trekkers who come with me, as well as young people on their first mountain adventure, often choose this option. It can also be a very nice experience for children, especially for a single night.

Sleeping in an unguarded hut is a bit like comfortable camping, but with the big advantage that all unguarded huts (bivacchi in Italian) have beds, blankets, and pillows. They usually also have a table where you can sit, play cards, and eat together.

In the unguarded hut, there is no toilet or shower, and you’ll need to bring your own sleeping bag. The food is usually cooked by me, but I’ll need your help to carry it up, as nothing is sold up there.
