The Monviso Short Hike is a perfect weekend escape into one of the most iconic corners of the Italian Alps. Known as the “King of Stone,” Monviso (3841 m) dominates the southern Alps and is visible even from the streets of Turin.

This trek leads to the Vallanta Hut, a charming mountain lodge located at the base of the Monviso peak. The hike follows a gentle valley trail surrounded by larch forests, alpine meadows, and clear mountain streams. The view of Monviso’s steep rocky pyramid appears gradually, rewarding every step.

The hike is suitable for all seasons — in summer, you’ll enjoy wildflowers and open meadows; in winter, the same route transforms into a magical snowshoeing path through silence and snow-covered forests. With the comfort of the hut’s warm winter room and the grandeur of the mountain above you, this short adventure captures the essence of the Alps in just two days.

The Unguarded Hut is the more adventurous and suggestive option. It’s like a small one-room house in the middle of the mountains, usually located at more than 2,500 meters (about 8,000 feet). Moreover, it’s the cheapest option, so if you are hiking alone or want to limit costs, this will be the best choice. Most of the experienced trekkers who come with me, as well as young people on their first mountain adventure, often choose this option. It can also be a very nice experience for children, especially for a single night.
