The northern GR20 is where Corsica shows its sharper side: granite walls, high ridges, cold lakes, and long days that ask for strong legs and a clear head. This route follows the most alpine part of the trail, from Bonifatu to Vizzavona, taking you through the classic northern stages and old mountain lines that feel raw, remote, and powerful.
This trek is for very fit hikers with real mountain experience. You will cross maquis and pine forest above the Gulf of Calvi, climb towards Monte Curona and Capu Ladroncellu, move through the Spasimata cirque to Lake Muvrella, and take on the Monte Cintu massif. The route includes nine peaks over 2,000 m, with possible ascents of Monte Cintu, Paglia Orba, Monte Ritondu, and Monte d’Oru. Along the way, there are alpine lakes, exposed ridges, steep descents, forest valleys, and wide views from the mountains to the sea.
Nights are spent in gîtes, refuges, and equipped bivouacs along the GR20. A local mountain guide leads the way, meals are provided during the trek, and luggage support keeps your pack lighter on the trail. Join this northern GR20 trek if you want the classic, demanding, and most dramatic side of Corsica’s mountains.
