Corsica does not give away its mountains easily. On the northern GR20, every ridge, granite slab, and steep pass has to be earned step by step. This route leads from Calenzana above the Gulf of Calvi to the historic pass of Vizzavona, crossing the most technical and dramatic part of the island’s famous long-distance trail.
Over eight days, the trek moves through pine forests, exposed ridgelines, deep cirques, alpine lakes, and remote valleys. You will climb through the Spasimata cirque, cross the Monte Cintu massif, follow the Golo River, and reach high mountain refuges such as Ciottulu di i Mori. In good conditions, optional ascents of Monte Cintu, Paglia Orba, Monte Ritondu, and Monte d’Oru add even more height and reward strong hikers with wide views over Corsica, the Mediterranean Sea, and beyond.
Accommodation is simple and authentic, with nights in mountain huts, gîtes, refuges, bergeries, or bivouacs along the trail. Luggage transport between huts allows you to hike with a light daypack, while breakfasts, dinners, and trail picnics keep you ready for long days on rough terrain. This trek is made for experienced hikers who want the raw northern GR20 in a focused and powerful format. Join this trek and take on one of Europe’s great mountain challenges!
