Discover the ancient magic of Sakar Mountain on this two-day hiking and cultural journey. Departing from Sofia or Plovdiv, we travel to the charming village of Sakartsi, where our adventure begins.

Wander scenic trails to the mysterious Jeliov Giol dolmen, followed by a tranquil picnic surrounded by nature’s quiet beauty. Continue your hike to the Kapalika and Kliftinova Niva dolmens, timeless monuments steeped in Thracian legend. After our return to Sakartsi, unwind with a warm welcome, local cuisine, and the unique ambiance of a Celtic-themed evening.

The next day, step even further back in time with a hike to the ancient sanctuary of Paleokastro, where traces of the Sun God reveal the area's deep spiritual past. After a peaceful picnic, we visit the serene Ystremsky Monastery, followed by a delicious local lunch before heading back.

This immersive experience blends hiking, history, and hospitality, offering a perfect escape into Bulgaria’s lesser-known treasures.

Route details

Your adventure begins early in the morning, with a 07:00 departure from Sofia. You'll meet the team behind Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, or at a different location if requested during booking. At 09:00, travelers from Plovdiv will join the group at the meeting point in front of Hotel Princess (Trimoncium), with optional alternative pickups arranged in advance.

From there, a scenic three-hour drive takes you to the peaceful village of Sakartsi, where the Celtic Club “Armuda” marks the beginning of your hiking experience. The first trek leads you to the Jeliov Giol dolmen, a journey of about one hour through beautiful natural surroundings. After exploring the ancient site, enjoy a relaxing picnic in nature.

In the afternoon, continue your hike to the dolmens Kapalika and Kliftinova Niva, a path that also takes about an hour. After taking time to rest and soak in the atmosphere, the group returns on foot to Sakartsi.

Once back in the village, you'll check in at the hotel and enjoy some free time to relax. In the evening, enjoy a Celtic-themed dinner at the hotel restaurant—delicious food in a warm, traditional atmosphere.
