Route details

Day 1
Ascent to the Giant

Departing from Sofia (08:00) or Plovdiv (07:00), we head to Malyovitsa Hut (1,700 m), the gateway to Rila’s alpine heart. After a scenic 1-hour trek, we reach the hut (1,960 m), where a panoramic view of Rila Mountain unfolds. Following a peaceful picnic, we continue through rocky rivers and plateaus to the Malyovishki Lakes, a trio of glacial gems. The final push takes us to the Malyovitsa Summit (2,729 m), offering one of the most breathtaking vistas in Bulgaria. After descending to the hut, we transfer to a cozy mountain lodge, enjoy a hearty vegetarian dinner, and unwind by a campfire under the stars.
