Winter in the Salzkammergut feels like stepping into a storybook. Snow-dusted peaks rise above shimmering lakes, forests lie silent under their frosty cloak, and every path leads to a discovery — whether it’s a hidden mountain hut, a quiet village, or a centuries-old tradition.
This journey carries you from wide-open plateaus where snow crunches beneath your boots to steaming thermal baths where time seems to pause. You’ll wander frozen lakes framed by pine forests, follow trails once taken by salt boatmen, and ride cable cars up to ridges where the world opens in every direction. One day it’s the soft glow of lanterns in Bad Ischl, the next it’s the hush of the Dachstein plateau where only your breath and the snow accompany you. And between these adventures, there are moments of warmth: a bowl of soup in a mountain hut, the sweet taste of Kaiserschmarren, or the smell of fresh pastries drifting from a village café.
Comfortable accommodation, easy transfers, and well-planned routes let you focus on the essence of travel: pure alpine moments of beauty, peace, and discovery. Prepare for discovery, breathe in the crisp winter air, and join us for an adventure that reveals Austria’s winter soul step by step!

Route details
Make your way individually to Ebensee, located on the idyllic southern shore of Lake Traunsee, by car or public transport.
In winter, the local mountain Feuerkogel shows its best side, offering one of Austria’s most diverse ski and winter hiking areas. Depending on your arrival time, you may also discover a unique local tradition: the “Ebenseer Kripperlroas” (until early February). This “crib tour” takes you from house to house, showcasing eight large nativity scenes displayed in private homes, the Catholic parish church, and the nativity exhibition at the Ebensee Museum. A nativity map will be waiting for you at the hotel, where you will also receive all your travel documents.
