The further you step from the city, the closer you come to something wilder, older, and infinitely more alive. In Tasmania’s South-West and Mount Field National Park, the rainforest hums with ancient silence, waterfalls tumble through cathedral groves of eucalypt, and the wind tells stories over alpine tarns. The land greets you with quiet strength and open heart to every person who comes in.
This trail invites you to explore something that cannot be define by words. You’ll walk beneath the world’s tallest flowering trees, trace glacial lake-shelves high above the forest line, and stand at Red Knoll Lookout with Lake Pedder glowing far below. Something will move inside you heart, once you explore remote tracks and quiet valleys few ever reach, from the moss-covered paths of the Florentine to the windswept ridges of the Port Davey trail.
The journey is not without its challenges — good level of fitness and readiness for the elements will serve you well. But you won’t walk it alone: our experienced guides are there every step of the way, offering support, knowledge, and encouragement. And each evening, as you return from the wilds with tired legs and a full heart, you'll carry the quiet pride of having earned every view. Staying in warm, comfortable local cottages and enjoying delicious meals, you’ll find rest and renewal between each day’s adventure.
Join us, open your heart, and Tasmania will meet you with quiet strength and serene beauty!

Route details
Our adventure begins with a central Hobart pick-up from the Hotel Grand Chancellor — please arrive at 7:30 am for a 7:45 am departure.
We travel westward from the city, pausing en route for a brief coffee stop before starting our first walk: the Lady Barron Falls Circuit in Mount Field National Park. This picturesque loop features three waterfalls — Russell Falls, Horseshoe Falls, and Lady Barron Falls. The initial section to Russell Falls is a gentle walk and a true gem, frequently photographed and cherished among Tasmania’s natural wonders. A short but steep ascent leads us to the charming Horseshoe Falls, where we pause to enjoy the view. The trail then continues deeper into lush forest, beneath the towering Swamp Gums — the tallest flowering plants on Earth — before arriving at the more secluded Lady Barron Falls.
After immersing ourselves in a peaceful landscape of rainforest, towering eucalypts, and cascading waterfalls, we return to our vehicle. Our next brief stop is a 1 km (30-minute return) walk to Junee Cave, the outlet of an underground river forming part of a limestone karst system. By afternoon, we arrive at Giants Table Cottages, our cozy base for the next three nights. Tonight, your guides will prepare a delicious two-course dinner.
Meals included: Lunch and dinner
Walking distance: 8 km total (3 hrs approx.)
Difficulty: Easy

Please note – due to the mountainous nature of the terrain, and the famously changeable weather conditions – this walk is graded moderate to hard, meaning a good level of fitness is required. Quality wet weather gear is also essential. Your guides may choose to alter the planned itinerary accordingly if deemed necessary, however we will always provide the most scenic walking options possible, based on the local conditions.
