Legends of the Moon: Rwenzori Summit Trek

After a briefing from the guides, you'll begin your trek to Sine Camp, located at an elevation of 2596 meters. The hike takes you through the towering trees of the Afro-montane forest zone. You'll experience a gradual ascent for about 6 kilometers, followed by a steeper climb towards Sine Hut.

Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to observe various plant and flower species, birds, and possibly spot some wildlife, such as Colobus monkeys. The total distance covered will be approximately 9.5 kilometers, taking around 5 to 6 hours of walking.

You'll spend the night at Sine Hut.

We'll go on a hike to Mutinda Camp, situated at an elevation of 3588 meters, as you trek the Bambo and Heather-Rapanea Zone. The trail winds its way up and over several small hills along a ridge, descending into the valley while crossing multiple streams and passing by moss-covered waterfalls. Here, you'll encounter unique plant and flower species that thrive above 3000 meters, such as Giant Heather trees with trunks draped in green moss and adorned with Usnea lichen hanging from their branches. Mutinda Camp is located near a small river and waterfall.

In the afternoon, there’s an option to summit Mutinda Lookout at 3975 meters.

The trek covers 6.1 km and typically takes around 6 to 8 hours to reach Mutinda Camp, where you'll spend the night.

On the fourth day, you'll journey through a valley filled with stunningly unique plant species, streams, and waterfalls as we make our way to Bugata Camp, located at an altitude of 4062 meters.

The trek becomes more challenging and tiring due to steep ridges, muddy and boggy areas, and high steps, but the breathtaking views make it all worthwhile.

You'll spend the night at Bugata Camp.

From Bugata Camp, you rise early to make your way to the summit of Weismann's Peak, which stands at 4,620 meters.

After reaching the peak, you begin your descent via an alternate route, creating a loop. This descent leads you down the Nyamwamba Valley to Kiharo Camp, located at 3,430 meters, where you'll spend the night. The trek to the peak is 3.7 km, and the total distance down to Kiharo Camp is about 9 km, taking approximately 8 to 10 hours.

You'll stay overnight at Kiharo Camp.

Make your way downhill, passing moss-covered rocks by the rivers and through stunning forests, back to the base camp in Kilembe. This trek covers 14.6 km and takes approximately 7 to 9 hours of walking.

After a debrief and some time to refresh, head to your hotel for the night.

You’ll be staying overnight at Trekkers Hostel, located at the foot of Mount Rwenzori, or a similar accommodation.

After an early morning breakfast Depart Rwenzori National Park and then transfer to Entebbe International Airport for your departure targeting your departure time from Entebbe International Airport. End
