Set off on an unforgettable adventure to Wangedigala Mountain, one of Sri Lanka’s most scenic hiking destinations. Located near the charming village of Kalupahana, this trek offers a blend of natural beauty, forest serenity, and exhilarating viewpoints.
The name Wangedigala comes from the Sinhalese word “wangedi” meaning “pestle,” describing the mountain’s unique pestle-shaped peak — hence the name “Pestle Rock.” Though often mistaken as one summit, Wangedigala and Wangedigala Mountain are actually two distinct peaks: one a striking rock platform that looks like a giant stage, and the other a true mountain summit offering panoramic 360° views of the surrounding valleys and waterfalls.
As you hike through towering pine forests, the air fills with the scent of resin and earth. Along the trail, you’ll glimpse Bambarakanda Falls — Sri Lanka’s tallest waterfall — and Lanka Falls, cascading from the neighboring hills.
