Embark on the first stage of the iconic Pekoe Trail, hiking from Hanthana to Galaha. This easy-to-moderate trek takes you through rolling tea plantations, lush forested ridges, and quaint villages, offering a true taste of Sri Lanka’s highlands. Begin at the Ceylon Tea Museum, where you can learn about the island’s legendary tea culture, then stroll through the shade of Hanthana Tea Estate, one of the oldest and largest plantations in the country.
Along the way, walk the rocky ridge of Katusu Konda (“Lizard’s Back”) with sweeping views of the Hanthana and Knuckles mountain ranges. Spot endemic birds and encounter charming local communities.
Stage 1 ends at Galaha Post Office, leaving you with memories of panoramic vistas, cultural heritage, and the timeless rhythm of the highlands.
