Rising dramatically above the remote village of Meemure, Lakegala (1310 m), meaning “Rock of Lanka”, is one of the island’s most iconic and feared peaks. Its distinctive triangular shape pierces the sky, visible from miles away — and scaling it is not for the faint of heart.
Unlike other peaks in the Knuckles range, Lakegala demands true rock climbing techniques, with steep ascents, exposed faces, and narrow ridges that challenge even experienced mountaineers. While it may only rank 14th in height, it’s considered the hardest mountain to climb in Sri Lanka — a test of courage, endurance, and focus.
This adventure combines a 10.5 km hike and climb with a 70-foot abseiling descent, guided by professional instructors and supported by full safety gear. Along the way, you’ll witness over 50 waterfalls and streams, sweeping views of the Knuckles mountain range, and the untouched wilderness of the Dumbara forest.
