Located in the Cordillera Blanca, Urus Mountain (part of the Chinchey Massif) rises with three summits—Urus East (5,420m), Central (5,495m), and West (5,450m). It’s a favorite acclimatization climb before tackling 6,000m peaks like Tocllaraju.
Meaning "Brain" or "Marrow" in Quechua, Urus is the closest peak to Ishinca Valley, allowing climbers to start their ascent right from camp. Its ever-changing moraine makes the climb unpredictable, but the reward is spectacular panoramic views of Palcaraju, Tocllaraju, Ranrapalca, Ocshapalca, Copa, and Akilpo.
A must for any Andean adventure!
