This Classic Inca Trail is one of the most renowned trekking paths globally. Experts suggest that it is a must-do hike for everyone at least once in their lifetime. The allure of this trail lies in the rich Inca Cultural Heritage found along the route, complemented by stunning landscapes that transform with each step.

To begin, the trek starts on the first day with an introduction between the tour guide, porters, and trekkers, followed by a bus ride from Cusco City to the village of Piscacucho, where the trail officially begins. After breakfast, trekkers will go through the necessary checkpoints and embark on their journey through this UNESCO World Heritage site.

The last interaction with local people occurs during the first lunch, marking the hikers' transition away from the modern world as they immerse themselves in the fascinating history of the Incas, filled with tales of glory and decline. They will be treated to breathtaking views of the snow-capped Andes, lush rainforests, and the sensation of walking above the clouds.

Route details

Day 1
Cusco to Km 82 – Ayapata Camp Site

The first day of the classic Inca Trail is easy going to help you settle into the trek.
Covering 14km of the trail climbing gently up the Cusichaca Valley, you pass by the Inca site of Llactapata, enjoy great views of the snow-capped peak Veronica (5900m / 19000ft) and get to see a variety of native plant life and birds throughout the day.
Our campsite for the night is at Ayapata (3300m / 10829ft) which is a little further along the trail than most groups go; as we’re camping further up the trail the next day’s trek up to the pass is a little easier for us and with fewer tourists at the campsite we can enjoy the peace and tranquility of this beautiful place.
– Campsite: Ayapata 3300 m/ 10829 ft.
– Distance: 14 km / 8.68 miles
– Highest point: Ayapata campsite 3300 m/ 10829 ft.
