The roar of the rotor fades, and suddenly the world is still — a vast sweep of peaks, ice, and silence. Here, high in the Southern Alps, you walk among clouds and stone, tracing paths few ever reach. The air is thin, the light sharp, and every step feels like discovery. This is the New Zealand's soul.

Led by expert mountain guides, your helicopter drops you deep into the alpine wilderness — places like Dragonfly Peak or Albert Burn Saddle — where glaciers and lakes unfold below. Whether you hike out through untouched valleys or fly back across the ridges, each journey is shaped by your pace, your spirit, and the mountain’s mood.

Lift off with us into a world that feels both endless and intimate — New Zealand at its purest altitude!

Tailored Altitude
Routes shaped around your ability, ambition, and the mountain’s rhythm — from the Alta Tarns to the Black Peak, Dragonfly Peak, and Albert Burn Saddle

Route details

Your adventure begins with a morning pick-up from your accommodation in Wānaka, or you can meet your guide at the helicopters hangar on the Wānaka–Mount Aspiring Road. After a quick briefing and gear check, the helicopter rises over the Matukituki Valley, crossing the Harris Mountains into the untouched heart of the Southern Alps / Kā Tiritiri o te Moana.

Several route options await — from Alta Tarns and Black Peak to Dragonfly Peak and Albert Burn Saddle — each offering sweeping views of Mount Aspiring and its glacier-carved valleys. Depending on your chosen route, you can either hike all the way down to the valley floor or fly out again after your alpine exploration.

Tour provider's comments

All trips are individually tailored to mountain conditions, fitness, and personal ambition. There are a variety of options and routes available. Shorter-duration trips can be arranged to suit the group.

It's important to know

What to Expect

The helicopter flight will transport you up above 2000m in the mountains where temperatures can be much colder than the valley floors.

Trips are very weather-dependent. We recommend having at least a day on either side of your booked date free to give you the best opportunity to get good conditions. Trips take place in a dynamic and remote mountain environment and the itinerary will be flexible to account for conditions.
