5-Day Trek: Berber Villages & High Atlas Valleys

After breakfast, we set off on our hike along the Assif n'Ait Oussaden valley, passing through walnut groves as we ascend to Tizi n'Taghrhourte (1995m). 

From there, we traverse a rare nearly flat stretch until we reach Assaka Spring, where we'll pause for a picnic in the tranquil surroundings after about two and a half hours of relatively easy walking. 

In the afternoon, our hike continues along the forest's edge until we arrive at the Berber village of D'knt (1870m) or Agouns n'Assoul. Here, we will enjoy dinner and spend the night in a bivouac or gîte.

Join our morning hike, a three-hour journey through walnut groves, corn and barley fields, greeting numerous sheep, goatherds, and women and children carrying 20kg loads of firewood and dried herbs. We will cross the Tizi n'Tagdalte, descending among juniper trees until we reach a small spring nestled in the shade, where we stop for our picnic. 

Refreshed, we continue down winding paths along the upper slopes for another three hours until we arrive at a small river at the start of the Assif n'Ait Oussaden valley. From there, we enter the village of Tizi Oussem (1850m) and then make our way up to the summer village of Tamsoult, where we will set up camp or stay in a gîte.

Today`s trek will take us to a charming waterfall at Azib Tamsoulte before making your way back to traverse the Tizi 'n Mzik pass, which stands at 2,500 meters. 

We will then descend into the main Toubkal valley at Imlil, located at 1,900 meters, where we will enjoy lunch and spend the night at our guesthouse, Dar Adrar, or a similar accommodation.

Enjoy a 6 to 7 hour circular trek past Berber hamlets and two mountain passes, with Jbel Oukaïmeden in view. Starting from Imlil (1,740m), head east along the Tamatert Valley, ascend Tizi n’Tamatert (2,279m), and descend into the Imenane Valley through Tinerhourhine. Follow winding mule trails through orchards to Ikiss and Amssakrou, where you can enjoy a picnic with stunning views of Jbel Oukaïmeden (3,268m) and the passes Tizi n’Ou Arg (2,258m) and Tizi n’Tiratene (2,268m).

Return west via Tizi n’Aguerssiouâl (1,767m), meandering through the Assif n’ Aït Mizane Valley. Continue along mule trails to Aguerssiouâl (2,664m) and head south toward the peaks of Jbel Toubkal, Aguelzim, and Aksouâl, passing through Taddart and Aït Souka before returning to Imlil. 

Finally, drive to Marrakech in the afternoon.
