Tusheti Highland Trek

Trekking time: 11 km, 5 hours;

Elevation: ↑649 m / ↓400 m

Following breakfast at the guesthouse, we will collect our day packs (our driver will transport your main luggage to the next village) and begin our exploration of the nearby villages in Tusheti. Our first stop will be Shenako, one of the few remaining inhabited villages in the region, situated beneath Mount Diklo and featuring traditional Georgian homes and a medieval Trinity church.

Next, we will visit the small village of Diklo, where we can see the remnants of the ancient Diklo fortress. We will spend the night at a guesthouse in Diklo.

Trekking: 8.6 km, 4 hours.

Today's hike will be relatively brief but quite challenging, featuring a steep descent and sudden elevation gain. Along the route, you'll traverse Tutareki Pass at an altitude of 1911 meters, where the views are stunning. From the top, you can see nearly the entire Pirikiti Alazani gorge and the surrounding villages.

You'll arrive in Chigho, an ancient settlement in the Pirikiti Valley known for its traditional wooden houses. Tonight, you'll stay at a guesthouse in Dartlo.

Trekking: 9.14 km, 4 hours.

Elevation: ↑490 m / ↓390 m

Today, you will have the opportunity to discover the village of Dartlo and take in the stunning views of the Pirikiti Valley. Located at an elevation of around 1800 meters, Dartlo is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Tusheti and is a UNESCO-protected site.

You will hike up to the villages of Kvavlo and Dano, situated above Dartlo, and then proceed along the ridge to the small village of Cheso, where you will stay overnight. Accommodation will be at a guesthouse in Cheso.

Trekking: 18.4 km, 8 hours,

Elevation: ↑970 m / ↓1070 m

From Chesho, we will take a road that runs alongside the right bank of the Pirikita Alazani River until we reach the village of Parsma. We'll cross the Alazani River via a wobbly metal bridge and begin our hike up to the Nakaecho Pass, which is the most challenging and scenic segment of our journey. Once we reach the pass, we'll make a brief detour to ascend the nearby summit of Mt. Makratela (3092 m above sea level), which provides stunning views of the Tusheti valleys.

From this point, the trail descends into the Gometsari Valley, passing through the villages of Dadikurta and Verkhovani along the way. We'll spend the night at a guesthouse in Jvarboseli.

Trekking: 16.7 km , 6 hours

Elevation: ↑915 m / ↓709 m

After breakfast, we will gradually make our way down to the riverbank, cross the bridge, and follow the main road downstream. After approximately an hour, the road will cross another river and ascend to Beghela village, where it continues uphill into the forest. After another hour of walking, we'll be greeted with stunning views of the picturesque village of Dochu situated on a slope below. Ultimately, we will reach Bochorna village, which sits at an elevation of 2,345 meters above sea level and is often regarded as the "highest settlement in Europe," with only one permanent resident.

Here, we will be picked up and driven back to Omalo for a well-deserved rest and farewell dinner. We will spend the night at a guesthouse in Omalo.

Following a late breakfast and some leisure time in Omalo, we will begin our drive back to Tbilisi.

Approximately halfway through our journey, we can take an optional break at the Torgva Baths, a small managed bathhouse where you can unwind and enjoy a warm mineral water pool.

Upon reaching Telavi, we'll stop at a local restaurant for lunch, and you'll also have some time to explore the nearby farmer's market before continuing our trip back to Tbilisi.

We will drop you off in Tbilisi.
