The first sound you notice is the sled sliding over snow, then the dogs picking up pace, and suddenly the forest opens in front of you. This week in South Lapland moves through different layers of winter — from quiet forest trails to open white landscapes, from stillness to speed.
You start slowly, walking on snowshoes through spruce forests and frozen bogs, stopping to light a fire and eat outside. Then the scenery shifts — Riisitunturi with its heavy snow-covered trees, wide views from the hills, and the chance to catch the Northern Lights in the evening sky. Midweek, you step onto skis, first on prepared tracks, then deeper into the backcountry, crossing lakes and ridges. And then comes the husky journey — two days in motion, learning to handle the sled, travelling through the forest, and spending a night in a remote wooden cabin far from everything.
The structure stays simple and comfortable. You return to a warm cabin or hotel, with sauna every evening and meals prepared for you. Transport, equipment, and guidance are all taken care of, so you can stay focused on the experience. If you want to see winter not as a backdrop but as something you move through, this is where to start, join us!
