Snow crunches under your skis, the air sparkles with Arctic snow, and above you the northern sky shifts in shades of green and violet. The Lapland Winter Ski Adventure invites you to discover the legendary Hetta–Pallas route — one of Finland’s oldest and most beautiful wilderness trails, where forests give way to wide fells and every turn shows new wonders.
Guided by a certified wilderness guide, you’ll ski 10–17 km per day across ancient mountains and frozen lakes, pulling your pulka with all essentials for the journey. Nights are spent in simple wilderness huts without electricity or running water, where snow melts into drinking water and woodfire keeps you warm. At Hannukuru, you’ll even cut a hole in the ice to fetch water for a traditional Finnish sauna — a memory remained forever. And if the sky clears, chances are high to witness the northern lights sparkling above the Arctic silence.
This all-inclusive adventure is designed for beginners with good fitness, offering safety, expert guidance, and small groups. Everything you need — skis, pulka, gear, and meals — is included, leaving you free to focus on the rhythm of skiing and the magic of Lapland’s winter wilderness. Join us on this classic hut-to-hut journey and let the Arctic show you its wild, luminous heart!

It's important to know
Depends on the timing: in January-February we qualify Lapland Winter Ski Adventure as moderate, but later in the spring, in March and April it is easy, good for an entry level skier and adventurer. In springtime there are groomed tracks on many parts of our route which makes it easier to go forward with pulkas. Also there is more sunlight in the spring and temperatures are usually higher than in mid winter.
Instead of carrying heavy backpacks we are pulling sledges or “pulkas”. Physical condition must be fairly good for this hike, you need to be fit enough to pull your own pulka for the whole four days. We will ski 10-17 km per day. We ski with “fell skis”, made for this kind of terrain. They are more robust than classic cross-country skis but lighter than alpine skis.
We ski form hut-to-hut and sleep in reserved cabins, dorm style, with no running water or electricity. Drinking water comes from melted snow, a dwell or a lake. One of the huts has a sauna which is quite luxury, as you get a chance to experience an authentic Finnish sauna with a guide!
All meals are provided during the Lapland Winter Ski Adventure, you just need your own favourite snacks. We also provide all the gear needed such as skis, sleds and sleeping bags – plus, if you need, a warm down jacket. You bring your personal clothing for skiing and warm shoes for the evening. We will send a detailed gear & clothing list. During day time, we hardly see other people. There is total silence and nature is still very pure and untouched here, high above the arctic circle.
We only organise the entry level Lapland Winter Ski Adventure for small groups. You can either choose a guaranteed date for a hut-to-hut ski tour departure or book a totally private tour for you and your group only. Our local certified wilderness guide will make sure you are in good hands. Weather can be anything from -20 degrees Celsius or pure whiteout snowstorm or beautiful warm sunshine. This unpredictability makes the whole adventure so interesting and demanding. The reward of experiencing it all is so worth it.

- MTMarkus T.about provider18 Mar, 2025Our 4-day ski touring adventure in the Kilpisjärvi region was absolutely fantastic. The landscapes were surreal - a winter wonderland at its finest. Joona and Minttu were our guides, and their calm, confident leadership made the whole journey feel both safe and exciting. There were challenging routes for the adventurous and easier ones for those wanting to enjoy the scenery. At the end of each day, we could either stay in cozy wilderness cabins or brave the elements and sleep in tents - a true Arctic experience! If you’re looking for a meaningful, nature-based adventure - this is the one. Can’t recommend it enough!

- LLiamabout provider6 Jan, 2025Exploring the Arctic winter in Lapland with snowshoes was something I’ll never forget. The conditions were intense, but that’s exactly what made it such an adventure. Our guides, Minttu and Joona, were absolute legends - knowledgeable, prepared, and incredibly supportive. What made it even more special was the bond we formed - we began the trip as clients and guides, and ended it as friends. Thank you both for creating a truly standout experience. I’ll be recommending this trip to every fellow adventurer I know!
