Nevado Juncal Climb

We begin our drive east from Santiago, heading toward Juncal Junction at 7,000 feet. The road follows the scenic Rio Aconcagua, offering dramatic views of the Andes mountains. Upon arrival, we embark on a hike up to Juncal Base Camp, following Rio Juncal until we reach Vega Nacimiento at 8,000 feet. Here, we’ll set up camp at the base of the spectacular Juncal Glacier. Despite the dry Central Andes, Nevado Juncal is heavily glaciated, adding to its allure. With mules carrying our gear, the hike becomes much more comfortable, allowing us to focus on the beauty of the landscape rather than the weight of our packs.

Today is dedicated to rest and acclimatization to ensure everyone has the best chance of summiting. Adapting to the low oxygen environment is key, and we'll take the necessary time to adjust. If needed, we’ll incorporate additional rest days into the schedule and climb in traditional expedition style. This involves carrying loads up to the next camp, then returning to sleep at the previous camp. The following day, we'll move to the higher camp. During this time, we’ll also review essential climbing techniques on the glacier to ensure we're prepared for the ascent ahead.

Today, we leave Base Camp and begin our ascent toward Camp I. This marks the start of our higher altitude journey, where we’ll continue to build our strength and acclimate to the challenging terrain. The route offers breathtaking views, and our progress will bring us closer to the majestic Nevado Juncal.

Once again, we leave Base Camp and continue our ascent to Camp I. This second move to Camp I helps us adjust to the altitude and gradually work our way up the mountain. The day’s journey will be filled with stunning scenery as we gain elevation, preparing us for the next stages of the climb.

Today, we carry a load up to Camp II at 15,510 feet to help with acclimatization. After reaching the higher camp, we’ll return to Camp I for the night. This strategy allows us to adjust to the higher altitude while ensuring we don’t push too hard in a single day. The effort today strengthens our preparation for the upcoming ascent.

Today, we move up to Camp II at 15,510 feet, ascending snow slopes with a brief section of easy mixed climbing. This climb will challenge your skills and further prepare you for the more demanding sections ahead. Upon reaching Camp II, we’ll settle in at this higher elevation, ready to continue the ascent in the coming days.

Today, we ascend to Camp III at 18,150 feet, navigating steep snow slopes along the way. As we climb, we’re rewarded with breathtaking views of the Central Andes. This challenging push will bring us to our High Camp, where we’ll settle in and prepare for the final stages of the climb to the summit.

Weather permitting, today we make our final push to the summit of Nevado Juncal! After days of preparation, we ascend the final stretch toward the peak, where breathtaking panoramic views of the Andes await us. This is the culmination of our efforts, and we’re ready for the challenge.

If necessary, we’ll take this day as a rest day, depending on how the group is feeling. We’ll use this time to recover and prepare for the summit attempt. Our goal is to ensure everyone is in the best condition to make the final ascent to the top!

After reaching the summit and taking in the incredible views, we begin our descent back to Base Camp. The journey down offers a chance to reflect on the adventure and enjoy the stunning surroundings as we make our way safely back to camp. It’s a well-earned rest after the thrilling ascent!

We begin our journey back by walking out to Juncal Junction, where our vehicle awaits to drive us back to Santiago. After a long but rewarding adventure, we’ll celebrate with a special dinner to reflect on our achievements and share memories from the climb. The following day, you’ll have the option to either fly home or continue exploring the wonders of South America.
