Climb in the Heart of Andes

Heading east from Santiago towards Farellones, we stop at Villa Paulina (5,000′) to begin our trek. With mules carrying most of our gear, we hike through the stunning Yerba Loca Valley, surrounded by breathtaking Andean scenery. After a full day’s walk, we reach base camp at 9,900′, where incredible views of La Paloma and El Altar await, setting the stage for our ascent.

Our journey continues as we move to Camp 1, with route options depending on conditions. The most thrilling choice is a steep glacier climb on La Paloma’s West Face, featuring challenging snow and ice sections. If conditions prove unfavorable, we’ll take the standard northwest flank route, ensuring a safe yet rewarding ascent.

A challenging and rewarding day awaits as we summit both La Paloma and El Altar. Reaching the col at 16,000′, we first ascend El Altar via its exposed north ridge, taking in breathtaking views. After descending back to the col, a short push leads to La Paloma’s summit. We then make our way back down to Camp 1, completing an unforgettable alpine ascent.

With El Plomo (18,000′) as our next goal, we set off toward Piedra Numerada, the gateway to this Andean giant. Once again, mules carry our gear, allowing us to enjoy the trek and take in the stunning alpine landscapes as we prepare for the climb ahead.

We continue our ascent to La Hoya, nestled at the base of El Plomo, where we take in stunning views of the Hiver Glacier. If conditions allow, we’ll tackle the Hiver’s technical ice route, a thrilling and challenging climb. Alternatively, we can opt for moderate snow routes to the right, ensuring a safe yet rewarding ascent based on group strength and weather conditions.

With incredible memories of the Central Andes, it's time to fly home or continue exploring South America. Whether heading to Patagonia, the Atacama Desert, or another adventure, the journey doesn’t have to end here!
