Some treks take you to a viewpoint. This one makes you work your way through a whole wild corner of Northern Thailand — forest, ridge, river, mist, and silence. The Khun Nam Ngao Trek is a demanding expedition through Mae Ngao National Park, made for experienced hikers who are ready for long days, heavy packs, simple camps, and mountain trails far from easy access.
Over five days, you cover more than 50 km through dense forest, remote ridgelines, hidden valleys, and high camps. The route climbs from Mae Ngao into Jolue Kee / Mon Kong Khao, continues to the summit camp at Doi Rong, then pushes through the toughest section toward Ban Mae Hat before reaching Sob Khong. Expect 5–7 hours of hiking a day, steep ascents and descents, basic facilities, no showers on the mountain, and nights in shared tents under dark skies.
The final day changes the rhythm completely: after days on foot, you drift down the Ngao River on a traditional bamboo raft before returning to Mae Ngao headquarters for a shower and the journey back. Come prepared, pack light, and bring strong legs — this is a raw, beautiful expedition that rewards every step!
