Tea Trails and Mountain Roads

After breakfast, begin your first day of cycling from the outskirts of Kandy through winding tea-clad mountain roads and charming rural villages. The ride climbs gently through forested trails and rolling hills before opening up to panoramic views of Hatton’s tea country.

Enjoy lunch en route at a local café, then continue past shimmering reservoirs and colonial tea estates before reaching your hotel in Hatton. Unwind with a cup of freshly brewed Ceylon tea as mist settles over the hills.

Start early for a challenging yet scenic ride through pine forests and terraced valleys. The route gradually ascends into cooler altitudes as you approach the Horton Plains National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for its montane grasslands and wildlife.

After reaching the park, trade bikes for hiking boots and set off on a trek to World’s End, a dramatic escarpment offering sweeping views of the southern plains. Visit Baker’s Falls, one of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful waterfalls, before returning for a picnic lunch. Transfer to your accommodation near Ohiya or Haputale for the night.

Wake up to the fresh mountain air of Haputale and begin a loop ride through rolling tea plantations, misty ridges, and scenic viewpoints. Stop at a working tea factory to learn the art of Ceylon tea production — from leaf plucking to the final golden brew.

In the afternoon, cycle to the famous Lipton’s Seat, one of the best vantage points in the hill country, named after Sir Thomas Lipton. The panoramic view stretches across lush valleys to the southern plains. Return to your cozy guesthouse and relax as the sun dips behind the hills.

Depart Haputale after breakfast, enjoying a beautiful downhill ride through forested slopes and quiet backroads toward Bandarawela, a small town known for its colonial heritage and cool climate. Continue on scenic routes lined with vegetable gardens and tea terraces until you reach Ella, one of Sri Lanka’s most beloved hill towns.

In the afternoon, enjoy short hikes to Little Adam’s Peak and the Nine Arches Bridge, both offering stunning photo opportunities and a relaxed end to your day.

After breakfast, enjoy your final descent ride through lush valleys, spice gardens, and mountain villages. The route offers panoramic views of waterfalls and forested hills as you wind down toward the southern plains.

Depending on your schedule, continue to Belihuloya or Udawalawa for an optional jeep safari through the southern wildlife reserves, or transfer back toward Kandy or the airport.
