The Ancascocha trail offers a stunning route to the remarkable Machu Picchu and is one of the lesser-known paths. It experiences significantly less foot traffic compared to other trails. Due to its remote location, not many companies provide tours, but its breathtaking scenery earned it a spot on National Geographic's list of the 20 dream hikes in the world.

As you journey along this trail, you'll encounter Quechua-speaking farming communities and gain insight into their way of life in the more secluded areas of Cusco. Their culture and traditions have remained largely unchanged for centuries, providing a glimpse into life during the Inca era. This trek features high-altitude hiking in the Andes, intriguing historical elements, enriching cultural interactions, beautiful nature, and one of the most tranquil routes to Machu Picchu.

The price displayed is for groups of 3+ participants. 2 Trekkers: USD 850.00 per person.

I was born in the tiny Indigenous community of Chillipahua, far from the city of Cusco. My father, mule driver Ignacio, was and continues to be a great example for me, we both share a passion for preserving the local cultural and natural environment and creating beautiful experiences for visitors to the area. I studied tourism in the city of Cusco, mastered the English language and worked as a tour guide at several respected tourist agencies in Cusco. During the time I worked for other tour providers, I saw how the services could be more personalized and how much visitors wanted to get really close to the indigenous people and their culture, a desire that was often not met by the tours and experiences they were offered. This is what motivated me to set up my company in 2018, and since then, feedback from clients confirms that we have been consistently meeting or exceeding visitors’ expectations.

The briefing before your trip will be at your hotel in Cusco or Sacred Valley as coordinated by our team.

There is no internet service on the Ancascocha during the 4-day trek, so you will experience a better connection with nature. In case of emergency, we have specialized doctors we can contact over the phone.

Our first day of this beautiful trek will start at daybreak when we pick you up from Cusco or Urubamba to drive up to the trailhead in Yanacocha Lagoon located at an elevation of 4,572 mt (15,000 ft). We will be met by our mule drivers and embark on our journey with a gradual ascent for about 45 minutes followed by a slight descent.

The purity and ruggedness of the surrounding mountains, only inhabited by llamas, alpacas, and condors will immediately have you profoundly connected to nature. We’ll have our first fabulous lunch made with mostly organic ingredients from our family farm at a place called Amarupata (4,400 mt / 14,437 ft) with the impressive Mount Moyuc in the background. From here, the next stretch is 30 minutes uphill to conquer our first pass, Kinsa Cruz (4,700 mt / 15,748 ft) where we’ll be able to take in the stunning view of the eroded mountains and highland valleys all around us. Another 1,5 hours of hiking will get us to the campsite for the day where we’ll also have dinner.
