The hike is one of the best short treks near Kathmandu, offering a perfect blend of nature, culture, and Himalayan scenery. Starting from Sundarijal and passing through Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, the trail leads you through lush forests, waterfalls, and peaceful hill villages, making it an ideal escape from the city.

What makes this trek truly special is the continuous Himalayan panorama from Chisapani to Nagarkot. Unlike longer and more demanding treks, this route delivers a rich Himalayan experience in just 3 days, with comfortable teahouse stays and easy access from Kathmandu.

From Sundarijal, the trek officially starts as you enter the lush wilderness of Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. After approximately 5 to 6 hours of hiking, you will reach Chisapani, a peaceful ridge-top village known for stunning Himalayan views. On clear days, enjoy panoramic views of the Langtang range and surrounding peaks, along with a beautiful sunset over the hills.

Tour provider's comments

Easy to moderate hiking program, suitable for beginners with basic fitness.

No technical skills are required, but trekkers should be prepared to walk around 4–7 hours per day on varied terrain. The main challenges include slippery and uneven forest trails inside Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, sudden weather changes such as rain, fog, and cold winds around Nagarkot, and long uphill and downhill sections that may cause fatigue or knee strain. There is also limited mobile network coverage in some forest areas between Sundarijal and Chisapani, so communication can be difficult in remote sections.

For safety, trekkers should always stay with their guide or group, wear proper trekking shoes with good grip, and carry essential items such as water, rain gear, and warm clothing. It is also recommended to start trekking early each day to avoid afternoon weather changes and to follow marked trails without littering or straying off route. Basic fitness, the ability to walk uphill and downhill for several hours, and good balance on uneven paths are important for this trek. Overall, the route is considered safe and beginner-friendly when properly guided, with the main risks coming from weather and trail conditions rather than altitude or technical difficulty.
