Mongolia's Western and Northern Adventure Tour

Following breakfast in Ulaanbaatar, we will make our way to the airport for a domestic flight to Murun in northern Mongolia. Upon arrival, we will take on a 110 km drive to Khatgal, located at the southern end of Khuvsgul Lake. We will take a brief hike to admire the stunning lake before enjoying lunch at the ger camp where we will be staying for the night.

After lunch, we will take on an hour-long horseback ride, followed by a hike to the summit of Khyasaa Mountain.

After breakfast, we will drive to Ulaan-Uul village. Along the way, we can expect to encounter local herders and see gers, yaks, goats, cows, sheep, and horses nestled in the mountainous landscape. Our journey will take us across several rivers and streams, and we should arrive in the beautiful Darkhad Valley by evening.

The valley is named after the Darkhad tribe, who have inhabited the area for centuries. The Darkhad people share a close connection with the Khalkh Mongols, one of Mongolia's prominent tribes, but they maintain their own distinct dialect and customs.

We will enjoy lunch on the road and spend the night at a motel.

Following breakfast, we will head to Tsagaan Nuur Village. There, we will spend the night in a local family's ger in Kharmai.

We will enjoy lunch while discussing their nomadic lifestyle and culture. Additionally, we will take a hike in the surrounding area before having dinner.

After breakfast, we will get ready for our horseback trek through the Taiga region, where a local family will have our horses prepared. Since the reindeer herders' camp is inaccessible by car, we will journey entirely on horseback, utilizing pack horses to transport our luggage.

Our trek will lead us through the dense forests and mountains of the Taiga, a unique ecological zone distinct from the typical steppe. The ride to the camp will take approximately 2-3 hours. Once we arrive, we will relax in a teepee belonging to a reindeer herding family. That evening, we will enjoy dinner and spend quality time with the family, staying overnight in the teepee.

We will start our exploration of the reindeer people's lifestyle at sunrise.

After enjoying breakfast, we will witness the process of milking reindeer. These indigenous people have thrived in this region for many years, engaging in fishing, hunting, foraging, and herding reindeer. They embrace shamanism and honor the spirit of the mountain, known as savdag.

We will also discover the handmade crafts that help the reindeer people preserve their culture and support their children’s education in this extraordinary environment.

Following breakfast, we will mount our horses and journey back to the Kharmai Valley, where we will part ways with our van and driver.

We will enjoy lunch en route and spend the night in Renchinlumbe village.

Following breakfast, we will take on a 7-8 hour journey back to Murun, where we will spend the night in a hotel.

We will depart early in the morning to drive to Oigon Lake, located near Tudevtei in Zavkhan province.

Oigon Lake has a rich history, having been the site of numerous battles for the independence of Khalkh Mongolia. Locals claim that there are as many as 108 small lakes in the vicinity of Oigon.

We will take in the stunning scenery of the area while taking some time to relax and spend the night.

Our next destination on this journey is Khyargas Lake, located in Uvs province. Renowned for its stunning beauty, it ranks among the largest lakes in Mongolia, spanning 1,406 square kilometers. The lake stretches 75 kilometers in length, 31 kilometers in width, and reaches a depth of 80 meters. Its brackish waters are home to unique fish species, including the Mongolian Grayling.

We will take some time to relax and soak in the breathtaking views before spending the night at a ger camp near the lake.

Following breakfast, we will journey westward to Bayan-Ulgii province.

Along the way, we will stop for lunch. Our itinerary includes a visit to the Kazak National Museum, and we will spend the night at a Kazak guest house, where dinner will also be provided.

Following breakfast, we will head into Altai Tavan Bogd National Park for exploration. This expansive park spans 630,000 hectares and is home to three significant freshwater lakes, 34 glaciers, and numerous waterfalls. It is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We will park our vehicle and take on a hike through the stunning surroundings. For the night, we will set up camp in tents.

Following breakfast, we will a drive to Tsagaan Gol Valley to take in the stunning scenery.

Next, we will visit the President's cairn and enjoy lunch.

During our journey, we will have the opportunity to view Malchin Peak. For the night, we can either set up camp in tents or spend the evening in a ger with a nearby nomadic family.

Following breakfast, we will head to Khoton and Khurgan Lakes.

We will have the opportunity to meet and engage with a family of eagle hunters, and we will spend the night with them.

In the morning, we will spend additional time with the hunter, delving into the ancient tradition of eagle hunting. The eagle's eyes remain covered until it's time to commence the hunt, and it only interacts with its handler during this time. Between mid- and late-September, the eagle's fin feathers mature, allowing them to hunt and carry larger prey.

We will also witness a traditional tug-of-war game, where two horseback competitors pull a goat skin against each other. Capturing a photo while holding an eagle will create an unforgettable memory.

Afterwards, we will drive to Ulgii, where we will spend the night at a local hotel.

After breakfast, we will explore some sights in Ulgii, time permitting, before our domestic flight back to Ulaanbaatar.

Upon arrival, our driver and guide will greet you at the airport and take you to your hotel, or you can enjoy some cashmere and souvenir shopping.

You will also have the chance to experience a traditional Mongolian folk concert. Finally, we will have a farewell dinner before dropping you off at your hotel.

In the morning, following breakfast at your hotel, we will collect you and take you to Chinggis Khan International Airport.
