Rossa Peak Hiking is a true high-mountain adventure in the heart of Gran Paradiso National Park. This challenging trek takes you to Rossa Peak (3610 m), offering breathtaking views over glaciers, alpine meadows, and rugged rocky ridges.

The hike is demanding, with steep ascents, exposed ridges, and 2000 meters of downhill descent. It is suitable only for experienced hikers with good physical fitness and mountain skills. Wildlife lovers will delight in possible sightings of ibexes, chamois, marmots, and deer along the trail.

Accommodation is flexible: choose between unguarded mountain huts like Gratton or Sella, or a comfortable mountain lodge in Cogne. This trek combines the thrill of a strenuous peak with the charm of authentic alpine hospitality.

The Unguarded Hut is the more adventurous and suggestive option. It’s like a small one-room house in the middle of the mountains, usually located at more than 2,500 meters (about 8,000 feet). Moreover, it’s the cheapest option, so if you are hiking alone or want to limit costs, this will be the best choice. Most of the experienced trekkers who come with me, as well as young people on their first mountain adventure, often choose this option. It can also be a very nice experience for children, especially for a single night.

Sleeping in an unguarded hut is a bit like comfortable camping, but with the big advantage that all unguarded huts (bivacchi in Italian) have beds, blankets, and pillows. They usually also have a table where you can sit, play cards, and eat together.

In the unguarded hut, there is no toilet or shower, and you’ll need to bring your own sleeping bag. The food is usually cooked by me, but I’ll need your help to carry it up, as nothing is sold up there.
