Today promises even more adventure, solitude, and breathtaking mountain vistas. As you depart from Eldorado Cabin, you'll quickly ascend Cabin Pass. Trekking through scattered trees and rocky terrain, you'll be rewarded with expansive views of your journey ahead from the summit of Cabin Pass, including a vast grassy basin, stunningly colorful rock formations, Camels Pass, and the impressive Ridge O Rama hiking route.
Following a brief descent into a vibrant grassy basin dotted with small tarns, you'll set out towards Camels Pass. Once you reach the top, you'll be greeted by spectacular 360-degree panoramas. The colors of the rocks are astonishing—truly a sight to behold. Keep an eye out for the pass's namesake—a camel's head! From Camels Pass, you'll traverse a broad, sparsely vegetated ridge, offering breathtaking mountain views all around. Take a moment to soak in the tranquility and beauty of your surroundings; it's a truly special experience.
From the summit of Ridge O Rama, you'll gradually descend into a basin featuring clusters of trees, marshy areas, small creek crossings, and diverse wildlife habitats. After navigating the relatively flat terrain of the basin, you'll make one final small creek crossing before a brief climb that leads you to a well-established trail, winding down through a dense forest. Marvel at how the landscape shifts to a blend of sand and volcanic ash.
After four days in the wilderness, you'll encounter the first signs of civilization—a dirt road. From there, continue your hike through a forested area back to our base on the shores of Tyaughton Lake.
